Baseball Splits Pair with East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG--Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) went 4 for 5 and scored three times and Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) knocked in three runs to lead the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 9-7 win over East Stroudsburg in game one of a doubleheader on Friday. In the nightcap, the Huskies lost by a score of 8-0.

In game one, Bloomsburg took a 3-0 in the third inning taking advantage of two errors in the inning by the Warriors. Preston Hitchock (Laceyville/Wyalusing Valley), Donofry and Tyler Gansner (Lancaster/Lampeter-Strasburg) each had an RBI in the inning. The Huskies extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth with Donofry driving home two runs with a double and Tressler and Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) both singling in a run.

In the top of the sixth inning with Bloomsburg in front 7-1, the Huskies tacked on two insurance runs with Ward hitting a sacrifice fly for one run with Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp) knocking in Donofry with a single.

The runs would turn out to be key as in the bottom of the seventh the Warriors scored five times and had the tying run at the plate. However, Mike Rosetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) earned the save as he retired the last batter to preserve the win for Chace Phillips (Milton/Milton).

In the nightcap, the Huskies managed just five hits against Christian Savieri in losing 8-0.

Bloomsburg goes to 9-26, 3-7 in the PSAC East, while East Stroudsburg is now 15-20, 4-6 in the PSAC East. The two teams play again on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bloomsburg.
